I can’t say for sure what it was that drew me back into my little office that night, but I felt a burning need to fill my mind with substance and spiritual thoughts and You Tube was just a few steps and a click away. Two of my favorite master teachers are Adyashanti, an Advaita teacher and Eckhart Tolle, who like myself, has a belief in the teachings in a book entitled A Course In Miracles (ACIM).
Back in 2010, I was introduced to ACIM quite by accident and immediately fell in love with the Course’s message that we are not separate from God, that we are all one with our brothers and that we will wake up together some day and see who we truly are.
That night it was Adyashanti who was going on about how we are all connected in the universe, and he was sharing a famous quote by the German theologian Meister Eckhart, in which Meister Eckhart says, “The Eye within which I see God and the Eye within which God sees me, is the one Eye.”
As I was reading this quote, a picture of an eye popped up on the monitor.
Looking intently into the eye, I felt as if the eye was looking back at me, as if I was being drawn into it. As I kept looking into this eye, an extraordinary feeling overcame me, and I was transfixed. I had an overpowering feeling and understanding of what Meister Eckhart meant by “the one eye.” It meant being One with God and I got it! I totally understood looking into that eye what he meant.
As this intense understanding of Oneness with God came to me, a clear, white light flashed hard into my eyes and jolted me back into my chair. I looked up and then around the room, and it appeared as if everything was changing. First my body started racing. My face felt hot and my body temperature was rising. Also, my breathing seemed heavy. At the same time, my body started vibrating and the room felt as if it was vibrating with me. I knew something extraordinary was happening, and I just wanted to get to my room and lie down. When I managed to get there, I sat up in my bed and watched in a little shock. My bedroom looked different and it had a new beauty to it. The room took on a warm, glowing color in sort of a reddish hue. At one point, it felt as though the room with me in it had moved and shifted up a bit as if it were in another reality.
I don’t know how long this continued, not too long; but, when it stopped, and I started to come down from it all, there was a dreamy peaceful feeling that hung in the air. And the light in the air took on a mystifying appearance. That awesome feeling lasted with me for maybe five days, and eventually, as if it was just a beautiful memory, drifted off.
The next day I told my two best ACIM friends, what had happened that night. Both of them were excited and wanted to talk about it and what it all meant. Whatever it was, I believe that I had had a glimpse of who we truly are, and the message was that we are all connected – not separated as this world would like us to believe. A Course In Miracles tells us that we are all children of God, united as One, that this world is not real, and that we will all return to our Real home together.
“God’s will is that His Son be one, and united with Him in His Oneness.” (T11-1.11:8)
I am so grateful for what happened that night. I don’t talk about it because, when one uses words to describe something that cannot be meaningfully translated, it takes away from it, and with the Holy Spirit’s guidance, I can still go there and remember that night when I had a glimpse of true Reality and recognized the meaning of Oneness with my brothers.
“God’s Oneness and ours are not separated, because His Oneness encompasses ours. (T8-5.3:1).
