“A Field Of Dreams: Baseball & Enlightenment”
with Cary Bayer

The history of baseball is murky to say the least but we do know that the game was played in 1823 in the Greenwich Village section of New York City. We also know that by 1866 it had been declared the national pastime. This just one year after the nation itself survived a civil war. So in just 33 years a new sport had risen to the exalted status of national pastime. Conversely, the United States declared itself an independent nation in 1776 but didn’t give the right to vote to Black men until the 15th Amendment to the Constitution was ratified in 1870. That’s an embarrassing 94 years. Even more embarrassing, however, is the fact that half the population―women―weren’t given that right until 1920, four amendments later, nearly a century and a half before the country was declared a free land.

So why was baseball on a much faster track? In this talk, life coach and meditation teacher Cary Bayer, author of “Zen Teachings of Sports and Have a Ball: Extra Innings of Baseball Humor” explains the spiritual reasons why.

” Qigong”
with Ken Frankel

Qigong consists of various ancient (and modern) Chinese practices that promote health, vitality and longevity through the engagement of body, breath, and mind. This session will be primarily experiential with some discussion of the foundational concepts, historical background, and health benefits of qigong along the way. No special athletic ability is needed and most methods may be practiced in either a seated or standing position. Wear comfortable clothing.

Ken Frankel has been practicing qigong for over twenty years and has traveled to many places in the United States and Canada to learn it. He has completed three 200-hour trainings and many briefer ones. Ken began teaching qigong classes at our lodge in 2018 and currently serves on the Board as Vice President 2.

There is no charge for any of our programs. We operate entirely by donations to balance giving and receiving and to continue our work of spreading the message of theosophy. All donations are tax deductible under the U.S. Internal Revenue Code, section 501(c) (3).
