This month we focus on Chapter 4, Human Beings & Our Bodies. Books are also available to take home and read for each participant.

“Zen Teachings of Cats & Dogs & Other Non-Humans”
with Cary Bayer

Americans have taken 171 million cats and dogs into their 115 million homes to raise, and spend some $50 billion a year on them. These little buddhas, who demonstrate many of the qualities that the world’s great teachers have taught about the nature of Enlightenment, have, in turn, taken us under their wings…um, make that paws. In this class, Zen Teachings of Cats and Dogs & Other Non-Humans, author Cary Bayer, a life coach and meditation teacher, describes Pet Yoga, a way to master five important qualities of Enlightenment that these creatures show us. Pet Yoga helps transform our consciousness from low levels of fear where our tail is between our legs to the place where it’s wagging all the time, the state of consciousness called Feline Groovy.

“Harmonic Resonance through Egyptian Qigong, Vedic Mudras, etc.”
with Frankie Hutton

After over a decade since her last talk at the Deerfield TS Lodge, let’s join collegiate scholar, author Frankie Hutton, as she delves into the profound work of cultivation and balancing Qi from diverse ancient traditions. Focused primarily on primordial Egyptian Qigong, the session will also include mudras and segments from other teachings including the little-known Emerald Tablets and more. This brief talk and participatory demonstration of stances, postures and gentle movements will exemplify the urgency of maintaining polarity balance in our bodies. Exploring the necessity of sincere work efforts toward overall cultivation of constructive thoughts, words, deeds and balanced Qi will be foremost in the session.

” Qigong”
with Ken Frankel

Qigong consists of various ancient (and modern) Chinese practices that promote health, vitality and longevity through the engagement of body, breath, and mind. This session will be primarily experiential with some discussion of the foundational concepts, historical background, and health benefits of qigong along the way. No special athletic ability is needed and most methods may be practiced in either a seated or standing position. Wear comfortable clothing.

Ken Frankel has been practicing qigong for over twenty years and has traveled to many places in the United States and Canada to learn it. He has completed three 200-hour trainings and many briefer ones. Ken began teaching qigong classes at our lodge in 2018 and currently serves on the Board as Vice President 2.
